Now an extra-EU market, the United Kingdom remains a key pillar for Italian wine exports.
Not only in terms of volume (12.2 million hectoliters in 2022, ranking as the 4th global destination for Italian wines), but above all in value, which continues to grow. According to ISTAT data analyzed by WineNews, in the first half of 2023—despite an overall global decline of -0.5%—Italian wineries recorded a +3.1% increase in the UK, reaching €380.4 million.
The off-trade channel accounts for the largest share of total sales (86%), thanks to the strength of the country’s major retailers. In this context, the UK stop of “Simply Italian Great Wines,” organized by IEM – International Exhibition Management (Marina Nedic & Giancarlo Voglino) in partnership with the renowned UK magazine The Drinks Business, takes place today in London.
